Chex Party Mix

Knock, knock!  I'm finally back!

I'm this-close to being finished with my chores-y Christmas tasks, and this-close to a whirlwind of baking treats and making candies.  Hurrahhhh!!  I decided to start with my Gramma's Chex mix recipe because it was a speedy-quick one to throw together last night.  Plus, I hadn't made it in at least seven years, so it was high time I revisit this munchy snack.

You see, my family makes this recipe every Christmas, and we have it sitting out in cute dishes and bowls all throughout the holiday season.  And it's absolutely on the table when we sit around the table playing card games and board games for hours on end.  It's the epitome of Christmas nostalgia in a bowl.  And the scent of it roasting in the oven takes me straight back to my mom's kitchen.  Pure love.

This Chex mix recipe is a great one for customizing.  You can swap out any of the dry ingredients for the same amount of anything else.  I recently added Cheezit crackers to this recipe by cutting back on the original amounts of cereal.  And you can choose whichever flavor of Chex cereal you love the most.  Just dump everything into a big pan (I use my large turkey roasting pan), fold in the butter sauce, and roast for an hour.  Too easy.  And too perfect for making memories with your family and friends.

What about you - does your family play games at Christmas?  Watch movies?  What do you do to stay cozy indoors when all of your family is gathered together for the holidays?

Crunch Crunch,
Sara

Chex Party Mix

5 c. rice or corn Chex cereal
5 c. wheat Chex cereal
5 c. Cheerios cereal
14 oz. Cheezit crackers
1 lb. salted mixed nuts
10 oz. pretzels
1 1/2 c. unsalted butter
3 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
2 tsp. garlic salt
2 tsp. onion salt
1 tsp. celery salt

Preheat oven to 250 degrees.

In a very large oven-safe roasting pan, mix together the cereals, crackers, and nuts and set aside.  In a small saucepan over medium  heat, melt butter.  Stir in remaining seasonings, making sure salts are dissolved completely.  Pour butter mixture over cereal mixture, folding with a silicone spatula to evenly coat all dry pieces.  Bake for 60 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes.  Allow to cool completely before storing in an airtight container.  Makes approx 2.5 gallons.

  1. Just want to make sure you have our mailing address so that we receive our big ass sack of delicious Chex Mix in the mail. Also, if you really want to class up Chex Mix, you can just drop the X's from the name and suddenly you have a chi chi French dish called Che Mi. Very elegant.

    1. Che Mi is awesome! Alas, I can't send a big ass sack of delicious Che Mi because it's full of glutenous items that your pretty half can't eat :(
